If you go looking online, you will notices there are a lot of resume format examples but there are also different types of resumes as well. How many different types of resume formats are there and which are the best for what jobs?
There are 3 basic types which include chronological, functional, and hybrid.
Chronological resumes are good for those with working experience within the field they are applying for.
Functional resumes are best used for highlighting skills and those seeking a career change.
Hybrid resumes cover both and kind of mix both together.
The Hybrid seems to be the best for this day and age. You want to sell yourself and your interest on the resume without coming off as cheap or easily replaceable. Showcase your skills with personality.
To give you a better idea of an outline for each one, this picture will help. The idea is that the functional one is best served for a job you are qualified for on paper. The chronological one is best for jobs that you don't need top qualifications or skills for and the combo or "hybrid" is a bit of both.
When in doubt, go for the standard chronological format. Even if you have some qualifications but not enough information to fill out a full page, this one will look a lot better.
I agree with Don. You really can't go wrong with that one. Even if you are qualified for the job and your skills and education line up with it, it is still the go to resume and the most commonly used format.
