I have only been working part time while in school. Since the outbreak, I have been out of work and while I am looking to apply to several options over the next coming weeks, are there things I should focus on before starting a new job? It has been awhile since I worked full time and it has been a few months since I worked at all.
Get your sleep schedule in order. I went through this myself a few times and it is the hardest thing to go back to work without fixing a sleep schedule. I was used to staying up until 4AM and sleeping in to noon but then I suddenly had to be waking up at 7AM and the first several weeks were hard on my mentally and physically.
Going from not working to working can be stressful for many reasons. As mentioned, make sure your sleep schedule is set. You don't want to start off a new job feeling awful and under-productive. I also recommend getting a planner. It helps to map out your new schedule in advance and still allow yourself the free time for friends and family, to enjoy life outside of work.
I know for me, anytime I start somewhere new it can be a bit of a challenge adopting to a new schedule. Like mentioned, sleep as to be a priority so make sure your sleep schedule matches up with your new job.
Prepare yourself mentally. Going from not having a schedule to having one can bring on stress and lead to migraines and sleep issues. You should get into a habit of waking up as if you are already working and sit at your desk for the length of your shift.
Don’t stress to much about it. Make sure you are getting good sleep. Go shopping for food and coffee in advance so you are not left without either for the morning or to take lunch to work with you.
